16th Annual Sunflower Balloon Fest in Anthony, KS

Since 1998, a high-flying festival with beautiful colored balloons, a parade, parachute jumpers, hot air balloon rides, music, and dancing takes the grounds of the Anthony municipal airport.

If you have never experienced the thrill of watching a bevy of colorful hot air balloons rise majestically from green pasture to blue sky, you can’t imagine what you’re missing. The event will feature hot air balloons of all shapes, size and colors, as well as a multitude of family-friendly activities.

The fun will begin on Friday, May 10 with a mixer to acquaint the balloonists with their sponsors and crew. The skies will then glow with spectacular fireworks on Friday evening about 9:30 p.m., following the balloon glow or balloon flight.

Throughout the day on Saturday there will be flyby-powered parachutes as the wind permits.

In the small town of Anthony, you can enjoy the F-4D Phantom jet fighter flight simulator, the Show & Shine Car Show, Scout Troop #855’s Dutch oven feed, special Shell activities a magician performing walk-around magic, a Mobile Vet Center, the Sunflower Balloon Fest parade, and SO much more. There will be great cuisine at each of the local restaurants and/or food vendors will also be serving their specialties up and down Main Street.

Best of all: Admission is FREE for the spectators. Hot air balloon rides are $150.00 and obviously food and souvenirs are added costs.

Be sure to check the Sunflower Balloon Fest website for schedule of events and sponsors.

PS: My family and I will be there.  Look for us! I'll be the one in the pink Traveling Mom shirt! Don't be shy ... come out and say hi!

  1. I have been performing strolling magic and making balloon animals for the kids at the Sunflower Balloon Fest for the last six years, and Gwen Warner has already invited me to come back next year.
