5 Things to Kick Off Father’s Day Weekend

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Warner Bros.
Oh shoot ya’ll … Father’s Day is literally like … almost here and I have yet to even begin to think of something to do for my husband on the day I truly realize how grateful I am he is the father of my children. Surely I’m not alone, right? I mean … at least make me feel like I’m not the "worst wife EVER" for not purchasing anything yet. Luckily I remembered NOW instead of waiting until the day before. It gives me time to think of some ideas on how to plan a Father’s Day he hopefully won’t forget.

Here are the 5 things we’re planning on doing to kick off Father’s Day weekend in our house.

Eat his Favorite Meal
The best way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, right? So we’re starting off on the right foot for this special weekend. I’m going to attempt to grill out some KC steaks and add a side of buttered green beans, mashed potatoes, hot rolls, and an Apple Crisp. Obviously he’ll need something to wash it all down with so I’ll have some of Milwaukee’s best sitting on ice ready to be cracked open. This very well could be the highlight of his weekend!

Take a Hike and Go Fishing
The aisles of sporting goods stores are lined with great Father's Day gift ideas – gadgets and gear that any outdoorsman would love. But I’m giving my husband the gift of time spent together in the great outdoors. We’re going to hit our favorite nature trail and see what we find that’s new. After a hike through the Kansas prairies, I’m taking my handsome husband fishing. He loves to fish – but never has time to go. For one weekend … we’re MAKING time to go. What’s the number one most priceless gift? Time, So instead of giving the latest outdoor gear or gadgets to my husband on this Father's Day, we’re giving him a gift that lasts by spending time outside with him.

Ice Cream Stop
I scream … he screams … The Topinka’s scream for ice cream! We are ice cream obsessed in our house! It’s never too cold to have a bowl and the summer is just an excuse to eat more of it. Even though my husband is a fan of just the plain ol’ Vanilla … it always tastes different regardless of where you go. So maybe we’ll hit a few ice cream shops to see which one is our favorite!

Leave him Alone
I know, this sounds kind of bad. But my husband is the hardest working man I know. He works all day, comes home, wrestles with the kids, helps with dinner, gives baths, reads bedtime stories, has to deal with me, and then gets to wake up in the morning and do it all over again. We are not an easy bunch to deal with, I tell ya. My husband never gets time to hisself. And sometimes I think he really needs a nap at 1:00 in the afternoon but he never gets to. So for one day only … I’m going to allow him to do whatever the heck he wants to … ALONE. He’s gonna love me forever!

Take my Superhero to the Movie
I’m going to tell you a secret and I mean this in the nicest way … My husband is a nerd. The number one quote said most often in our house: "Up in the sky, look: It's a bird. It's a plane. It's Superman! Faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound". I’m pretty sure my son’s knew the word Superman before they could barely talk. So what made Father’s Day weekend even more awesome is the fact that Man of Steel is having a special premiere at 7pm on June 13th. Here’s the best part: You can buy tickets in the Walmart Electronics department ahead of time for added convenience. In other words, now he can hit the theater without complaining about the long lines! Exclusive access to the film before it debuts nationwide on Father’s Day weekend will make him feel extra-special.
I changed my mind … taking him to see a special premiere of Man of Steel will definitely earn me the "Best Wife" award!

So what’s in store for you and your loved ones this Father’s Day?

If you’re stuck … I highly recommend Man of Steel and purchasing your tickets at Wal-Mart.
